SKANDA SHASTI

 

Occurrence : in the month of Aippasi

SKANDA SHASTI is the festival in honour of Lord Murugan celebrated in all the Lord Murugan. It occurs on the 6th day (Shashti) of the bright fortnight after the new moon in the Tamil month of Aippasi. Devotees of Lord Murugan all over Tamil Nadu and many in Malaysia fast for the 6 days and spend the days singing his praise.

This day signifies that the soul receives the supreme jnana (wisdom) by Lord Siva’s grace and with this jnana is able to overcome ignorance and then reach final union with Lord Siva.
